A fast time simulation tool box was developed to simulate the ships motion with complex dynamic models and to display the ships track immediately in an Electronic Sea Chart for the intended or actual rudder or engine manoeuvre. This “Simulation Augmented Manoeuvring Design and Monitoring” - SAMMON tool box will allow for a new type of design of a manoeuvring plan as enhancement of the common pure way point planning and an unmatched monitoring of ship handling processes with multiple prediction of the future ships motion to follow the underlying manoeuvring plan. This SAMMON tool box is not only intended be used on board of real ships but is also an effective tool for lecturing and demonstration of ships motion characteristic as well as for training in ship handling simulators because the trainee can immediately see the result of the actual rudder, engine or thruster commands. It is also an excellent tool to demonstrate the effect of alternative manoeuvring equipment e.g. to demonstrate the advantages of high lift rudders in comparison to standard rudders. Examples will be given for demonstrations of characteristic ship motion aspects and from test trails in the full mission ship handling simulator of the Maritime Simulation Centre Warnemuende.
